Who is JKCA president? | Handouts contradict election results | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jul 30: Things continue to remain murky in Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) with handouts issued by the association showing Dr Farooq as the president. A press note released on July 27, 2015 mentioned Dr Farooq as the JKCA president. The press release issued by Rakesh Sharma, Vice Chairman JKCA, Jammu wing informed the press about the conduct of the cricket tournaments that are being organised in North Zone. Howeer, the handout declared Dr Farooq as the president JKCA despite the association claiming to having elected Imran Raza Ansari as the new president of the association. Reports informed further Rakesh Sharma, Vice Chairman JKCA, Jammu wing who in his released press note declared Dr Farooq as the president has himself claimed to have voted for Imran Ansari. The press release number JKCA/VC/JW /185 issued on July 27, 2015, which is in possession of Early Times says that the north zone fixture committee in its meeting on 27th of July 2015 finalized the fixture for various national tournaments of north zone. It adds further, "Sunil Dev convener, north zone convened a meeting which was attended by M.P. Pandove, Hony. Secretary Punjab Cricket Association Vishal Marwah, Hony. Secretary Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Ajay Gupta,, Vice President Haryana Cricket Association. Jammu and Kashmir was represented by Sudershan Mehta Joint Secretary Jammu." The press release which has raised questions about the recent polls in JKCA, maintains further that U-14 tournament will be hosted by Jammu and Kashmir for the second time. Meanwhile, sources within the JKCA said that the chaos over the new president continues within the association with the recent press conference of Dr Farooq proving to be a worrisome entity for the helmsmen. Dr Farooq at that time claimed to have majority of the voters with him. He added that 35 out of 64 JKCA members were present in the meeting which took place on July 24. "35 members are present today ( July 24) and they are in front of you. The government used its power to stop institutes, colleges, employees to attend the meeting." Earlier, on July 21, 62 members of the JKCA elected Ansari as the president. Forty-seven of the working committee members were physically present at the election held at the association's Sonwar headquarters, while Jammu University faxed its vote in Ansari's favour. The pro-Abdullah members boycotted the election, terming it as "unauthorised and illegal". Former bureaucrat Mehboob Iqbal was elected as chairman, Iqbal Shah as general secretary, Abdul Rouf as treasurer, while Javed Kitab and Mohammad Ashraf Bhat were appointed as vice-chairman and joint secretary respectively for Kashmir wing. Rakesh Kumar and Sudhershan Mehta were appointed as joint secretaries for the Jammu wing. All the office bearers were elected un-opposed. Former general secretary Prof Manzoor Wazir said the term of office bearers including president will for one year from the date of the election. |
