Why now decry Govt for "withdrawal" of security? | They themselves faced similar accusations while they were in power | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 19: While painting a dim picture of BJP-PDP alliance, Opposition Congress has denounced the Government for "withdrawing the security cover of some party leaders and other mainstream opposition leaders by design, even in the face of threats" notwithstanding the fact that similar accusations were off and on made against it inside and outside the legislature by then opposition parties when it was in power. It should not raise hue and cry if it is now being paid in the same coin. The issue has become the talking point in the state Congress, which has been plagued by internal bickering for the past over a decade, but it has brought the rivals within the party on a common platform. They, however, lack the vigour to make a political issue out of it, knowing somewhere in their hearts that they faced the similar allegations from the opposition parties while they were in power. JKNPP has also joined the chorus against the Government for the withdrawal of security cover of some of its leaders. While all these politicians are out of power now after their crushing defeat in the 2014 Assembly polls in the State, they still want to lead princely lifestyles by having an army of security personnel around them. If they really feel threatened in the wake of "withdrawal" of their security, if any, they should be given extra security cover only when they visit militancy-infested areas of the State to address public rallies. They definitely need no extra security cover while moving in peace areas of the State. Extra security for some is also a status symbol. They claimed that by selectively withdrawing their security cover, the Government had exposed them to anti-national forces at a time, when, the party claimed, the militancy had "gone up" in the state. This is something very ridiculous. While they were in power, they too were accused of indulging in wicked designs and conspiracy to deprive the opposition leaders of their due security despite the "security threats" faced by them. They are now getting the taste of their own "anti-opposition" strategies. The Congress has also issued a joint statement in this regard which has been signed by ex-ministers Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Kanta Bhan (all vice president, JKPCC), MLC Ravinder Sharma, Rajnesh Sharma (co-treasurer) and former ministers - Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Manjeet Singh and Shabir Ahmed Khan. Being veterans, they should not try to make issues out of no issues. Rather they should come forward with logics and data in support of their allegations. Such gimmicks would take them nowhere. |
