18 army jawans sustain injuries as IED detonates accidentally at Khrew | Army orders for Court of Inquiry to probe matter | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 29: More than one dozen army jawans got injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off accidentally inside an army camp in the Khrew area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered by the Army to probe the incident and find out the reasons behind the detonation of IED. Reports reaching here said that army jawans inside the camp at Khrew got perturbed after they heard a big bang early in the morning. The terrified jawans were shocked to see many of their colleagues lying in pool of blood. The injured jawans were immediately shifted to the 92 Base Hospital in the Badami Bagh area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the army jawans got injured after an IED went off inside the camp in the morning. While the initial reports suggested that around 10 jawans have been injured the latest reports said that the number of injured persons is 18. All the injured are safe and out of danger at the 92 Base Hospital. Srinagar based defence spokesman Lt Colonel N N Joshi in a press release said that 18 army jawans sustained injuries after an IED went off accidentally in the army camp at Khrew in Pulwama district. "In an unfortunate incident which occurred at Army Training Camp Khrew in the morning today, 18 Army personnel were injured. They are under treatment at Army Base Hospital. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate into the cause of the accident," said Lt Col Joshi. The defence spokesman said that the IED went off accidentally and apparently there was no sabotage. |
