Modi 'divides' Abdullahs | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 29: The opposition National Conference is fast losing its direction and appears to be a divided house on many issues. The party president Omar Abdullah is interested in forming next alliance with the Congress while his father and the NC patron Farooq Abdullah is trying to reach out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he believes that the Congress is not coming to power again. Omar and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi continue to have personal relations and it's for this reason that the former doesn't want to have any truck with the BJP. During his recent visit to J&K, Rahul Gandhi critcised Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for not being able to get a financial package for the state from the Centre. He had said that it was the job of Mufti to get the package but he has not been able to deliver. Rahul was also critical of Modi and said the violence in Ahmadabad is the result of the politics of Modi. Both his statements were in line with the statements of Omar Abdullah who is also critcising Mufti for failing to get a financial package and is being consistently critical of Modi for his brand of politics. It is in stark contrast to the line adopted by Farooq Abdullah who has blamed Mufti but does not criticize Modi. He has now gone to the extent of saying that Modi wants peace with Pakistan but the army in the neighbouring country is not interested in peace with India. On the other hand, Omar Abdullah has never ever said that Modi wants peace with Pakistan and is in fact consistently accusing him of pursing communal politics. "We are confused as it's not clear which way the party is going. It's better for Omar to leave the affairs to Farooq as the latter only understands things. Both the state and the centre have seen how disastrous 'young' leaders can be," said a senior NC leader. |
