Protest against NAVYUGA Construction Company held 8/29/2015 11:32:43 PM Danish Muzafar Early Times Report Banihal, Aug 30: Near about one dozen leaders of agitated workers of NAVYUGA Construction Company which is engaged in the execution work of 8.45 km long Banihal Qazigund four line tunnel today sit on indefinite hunger strike in favour of their demands and their strike entered in 30 th day today. The workers who are on strike from past one month on their different demands today, their 11 leaders started their hunger strike as per the ultimatum already given by the workers to the company management yesterday. Sources said that these worker leaders sat on north portal of Banihal-Qazigund under construction four line tunnels on indefinite hunger strike from today in favour of their demands. A team of doctors from Qazigund hospital today visited the agitation spot of the workers near the face of tunnel and checked medically the workers who are on hunger strike. Yesterday these agitated workers marched from northern tube of the tunnel up to the Tehsildar office Qazigund and submitted their charter of demands before the Tehsildar Qazigund. Some leaders of the workers from Banihal side called by district adminstration and district police to Ramban for negotiation but their negotiation failed. The leaders of the workers said that the company had agreed to fulfil there other demands expect of allowing them to open a union office under the banner of central Indian trade union (CITU) in the premises of the project which is the big demand of the workers Some leaders of the workers said that their indefinite hunger strike would continue until the company allowed them to open their union office in the premises of the project under the banner of CITU. Due to the Suspension of work on tunnel from past one month the company has been bearing the heavy loss and the project is going to delay which is already delayed in past due to some financial crunches in 2013. The adminstration and Police of both sides are trying to solve the matter between the workers and the company management but it could not solved yet.
