123 students not enrolled in Doda district

Jammu, Sept 2: Defeating the purpose of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, which had been launched with much fanfare in 2002, to cover the uncovered areas by enrolling the children in the schools but on the contrary as many as 123 children of a particular community in Doda district have not been enrolled in the school. Depicting the inefficiency of Department of Education in making enrolment of children of remote villages in hilly areas of the region in a report compiled by a NGO under the name and title of Education Environmental, Social, Sports & Cultural Society by conducting survey in the Doda District which found that at least 123 children of Mahasha community of Doda district which is considered the most depressed lot in the district with minimum literacy rate and poor economical background.
"At least 123 children between 6 to 18 years of age group have either never gone to the school or never enrolled which has raised a big question on Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Concerned department failed to make these children to enroll in the school despite knowing the factual position and the presence of this community in the district," the report revealed.
The report further reveals that the highest number of these children figured in village Sharow panchayat Hambal-B of Educational Zone Asser with 54 followed by the village Banjer Panchayat Molthi Doda with 17, Blandpur Asser 9, Bhatti Panchayat Derka Bhaderwah 9, Bhaja Bhaderwah 9 and Halaran of Tehsil Thathri 8. Report further said "Out of total 123 children which were never enrolled, 77 are females and 46 are males."
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, aimed at achieving universalization in elementary education, has failed to possess the desired impact on the quality of primary and upper primary education and its goal of increasing enrollment in government schools. Interestingly, this report has been sent to all the concerning authority for taking necessary steps to but the report is biting dust on the desk of officials.
