Tug of war between PDP, BJP over economic package for J&K | | | ET Report jammu, Sept 2: Tug of war between two coalition partners Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and BJP has started over economic package likely to be announced by the Union Government for Jammu and Kashmir. PDP, who is heading the coalition, is demanding that first priority should be given to the flood affected families of Kashmir Valley in the economic package while as BJP is mounting pressure on its high command to sanction more funds for Jammu region in the whooping package likely to be announced very soon. After getting reports that Union Government has almost finalized the economic package, two senior leaders namely Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh and State BJP president and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma have rushed to New Delhi to put pressure on the Government. Already facing severe criticism from people of Jammu region on the issue of AIIMS, there is fear among BJP leaders that people will again come on roads if they failed to get adequate funds for Jammu region. They are using all resources to pressurize Union Government against ignoring Jammu region. The PDP, on the other hand, has impressed upon the Union Government to give priority to the rehabilitation of flood affected families in the package. Reported in the section of media Union Government is likely to announce the massive development package for J&K. The announcement of this 'rehabilitation and development plan' would be a major shot in the arm of the State PDP-BJP Government, otherwise, suffering from dearth of funds and waning credibility. The package, according to J&K Government, would include a considerable share for 2014 flood victims, who have not been compensated even 12 months after the tragedy. Keeping in view the criticism PDP had to face in Valley, after forging coalition with BJP, PDP wants that package should be announced in Srinagar This could be provide, temporary vindication to their decision of forming the Government with BJP. |
