Health Minister yet to go beyond Aprons | Patient care takes back seat | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sep 2: The Jammu and Kashmir health and medical education department has been reduced to checking whether the staffers have put on the apron or not. Superintendents of all district hospitals in the state have been asked to ensure the doctors wear aprons during office hours. They have been asked to take action against those violating the directive. The Health minister has now being accused of ignoring patient care. 'he concentrates on issues that are not important," said an official preferring anonymity. Taking example of hospitals across Jammu region, it has been observed that health care has taken a back seat and apron wearing has become the only focus of the medicos. "Nobody is looking after the real role of a doctor of providing selfless service to the patients. Every day long queues are seen outside OPD area of hospitals and doctors hardly sit for couple of hours to attend patients. Their focus is to attend patients at their clinics and OPD is not their priority," said an employee of health department at Jammu. He said that once the duty hours are over, senior doctors are not available. "Junior doctors in medical college and ISM doctors in district hospitals are taking care of the emergency patients in almost all district hospitals. The recent case in Gandhi Nagar hospital when a young man died because of negligence of doctors is the glaring example of health minister's focus," he added. What the health minister needs to do is to mend his style of working and focus on providing better healthcare facilities. |
