JAKFED, other gas agencies running illegally in residential areas Safety guidelines on stocking LPG being violated with impunity 9/2/2015 11:59:45 PM Sumit Sharma Early Times Report jammu, Sept 2: Violating Petroleum and Natural Gas ministry's safety guidelines which specify that the godowns of the gas agencies must be out of the Municipal limits, most of the gas agencies have been running their businesses in the residential areas that too under the nose of the authorities. Amazingly, J&K Government's own department, JAKFED is on forefront among the violators gas agencies. Other gas agencies which have their godowns in residential areas including Chenab Trading Comp. Ambphalla,Tawi Gas agency, Pacca Talab Rehari Chungi and Kameshwar Gas, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu. Worthwhile to mention here that the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry issued the guidelines to thwart any eventuality, however, notwithstanding, J&K Government is taking them lightly, thus jeopardizing innocent lives. The glaring laxities on the part of the Government came to limelight when the lawyer Kovid Khosla, in public interest, filed RTI to Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) seeking details of the records of the building permission in favour of the gas agencies with in municipal limits. The JMC in response to RTI query having No JMC/S/RTI/386-89, admitted that no building permission have been issued in favour of any gas agencies for construction of godowns, adding no such notices have been issued to these gas agencies . Shifting the blame on CAPD Deptt and office of the District Magistrate Jammu, the JMC said that warnings/notices and closure of such illegal godowns with in municipal limits is to be issued by CAPD Deptt and District t Magistrate Jammu as most of the godowns of these gas agencies were constructed prior to expansion of JMC's limits. Further if the whistle blower is to be believed, to adhere guidelines of the ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas these gas agencies have to spend crores of rupees to identify the land for godowns outside residential areas and to keep at bay to meet the expenses these violators have developed nexus with the Government agencies at the cost of the lives of the people   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
