Yasin, Tarigami, Mir extend 'support' to trade union rally under AMM banner | From political obscurity to reinforcing presence, identity | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 2: At a time when the ruling alliance partners are striving to keep their ruffled feathers and flock together and two main opposition parties National Conference and Congress trying to grab some shrunk space, three stalwarts of the state re emerged on the scene today albeit on a different platform to show their presence in a deviated manner. Having been pushed to political oblivion post Assembly elections, Hakim Mohammad Yasin, MY Tarigami and Ghulam Hassan Mir resurfaced on the political field today by extending support to trade union rally at SK Park in Srinagar. Sources said the three politicians under the banner of Peoples United Front popular in Kashmir as Awami Mutahhida Mahaz, came out together to extend support to the cause of trade unions which protested against Narender Modi led NDA government across the country and at the state level against the PDP led ruling dispensation over various issues. All the three were on fore front of the procession which was taken out after they addressed the rally at Sher-i-Kashmir Park today as a part of national programme. Though they led the procession in the front row, the presence was more seen as symbolic , no matter their participation offered some political weight to the protestors. The three seasoned politicians made a retreat when the protestors in the procession were lathi charged and disallowed to march ahead, sources said. The participation of Yasin , Mir and Tarigami is being seen more as reinforcing their presence on the political scene at a time when their identity and role is not meaningful in the existing political spectrum of state, no matter all the three have a vast experience in various capacities. While Tarigami and Yasin won the 2014 Assembly elections from their respective constituencies, Mir who was a minister in the NC-Congress coalition faced drubbing in the backdrop of strong anti incumbency factor during the elections. Though they were seen together for the past so many years, they formally joined hands together last year ahead of Lok Sabha elections under the renewed name of the outfit Peoples United Front. While the Front was seen active on a couple of occasions with a forceful presence, for some time in recent months its identity has been seen more through statements of Hakim Yasin, its chief who responds at regular intervals on current political issues. Their participation in the rally today and extending support to the trade unions today marked their joint presence publicly after a long time, with an aim to reinforce the idea Front as a strong alternative political oufit in the opposition role at present. |
