Baramulla sees Lord Krishna Jhanki after 25 years
Janamashtami celebrated with religious fervour

BARAMULLA, Sep 5: Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, was observed today in Baramulla and other parts of north Kashmir with religious fervour.
The festival is observed to mark the birth of Lord Krishna.
The lord Krishna Jhanki taken by Kashmir Pandith Association Veervan Baramulla from Veervan colony to Mata Sultanpuri and then Tagunath Mandir Bla after a gap of 25 years.
Baramulla market also witnessed customers who bought traditional decorative items, flowers for Lord Krishna and collecting materials for special cuisines to fast on Janmashtami, women and young girls left no stone unturned to make the festival memorable.
The Sri Krishna Janmashtami and the Vittal Pindi (Sri Krishna Leelotsava) would be celebrated at the Ragunath temple on late night of September 5.
Krishna Janmashtami is a national holiday in India, celebrated widely by Hindus in other parts of the state.
In Baramulla's Veervan area pictures of Lord Krishna were hanging over the doors, morpankh (peacock feather), pots containing butter and butter milk were also among the best seller.
The devotees thronged temples and offered special prayers and celebration was also reported from other places across the north Kashmir.
Members of Kashmiri Pandit Association Veervan Baramulla told early times that, "today's festival was altogether different, as after 25 years the lord Krishna Jhanki was taken from Veervan to Ragunath Mandir Baramulla.
T.N Pndita said that there are various events in this fun filled festival like Dahi Handi and Raas Leela. However the Ragunath temple remains the centre of attraction for devotees as Janmashtami in this temple would be celebrated today.
Association thanked Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Yasha Mudghal, and SHO Baramulla Aiyaz Geelani who have made all the arrangement for their festival.
Meanwhile President of the Kashmiri Pandit Association Veervan Baramulla Rajender Bhushan said that, we want peace and prosperity should prevail in the country and especially in Jammu and Kashmir. Let the government rehabilitate the pandits as they were living here in 1990.
We have always supported peace and tranquillity should return to Kashmir, and at the same time we appeal the present PDP-BJP government run by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to rehabilitate the Kashmiri Pandiths at the earliest, we want to live with our Muslim brethren here in Kashmir, said president.
