Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 5: Ahead of nomination of District and Block presidents of Congress in Jammu and Kashmir, the PCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir seems to be slipping into deep trouble as some prominent mass based leaders from Jammu are not happy with his style of functioning. Even as the PCC president earlier managed to rein in dissidents, who had raised a banner of revolt and formed a third front, the fresh voices of discontent are emerging from his own camp of supporters, who had played a significant role in installing him as president of the Pradesh Congress Committee. According to the sources in PCC, former minister and PCC senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma and some other Jammu based leaders are not happy with G A Mir for the latter's attempt to down size everyone during the recent visit of Rahul Gandhi to the State. Despite the fact that Sham Lal is senior vice-president, who is incharge of PCC affairs in Jammu division, Mir sought to project only himself before Rahul Gandhi during the three-day visit for the reasons best known to him. This has annoyed Jammu based leaders, who have suddenly become highly critical of Mir for his self centric approach, sources explained. Further, sources added, the new front of dissidents is all set to create trouble for G A Mir ahead of appointment of District and Block presidents of Congress in Jammu and Kashmir, whose nomination is likely to be made very soon. As far as nomination of district and block presidents in Jammu division is concerned, assertive Sham Lal Sharma will not allow G A Mir to take decisions on his own and a confrontation is all set to emerge in the party over this issue, explained a senior Congress leader on the condition of anonymity. On the other hand, former Chief Minister and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who has asked his camp for a temporary ceasefire with Mir, is likely to exploit this opportunity in his favour by getting his men installed on important positions in State Congress, sources added. |
