Rajouri, Sept 5: District authorities today slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) for the first time against two notorious drug peddlers presently detained in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal for a period to be specified by the Government upto one year. The two drug peddlers who were slapped PSA have been identified namely as Arshad Ahmed S/O Mohd Latief R/O Dalogra and Rajan Gupta @ Ladi S/O Raj Kumar Gupta R/O Kalakote. Police spokesperson said that Rajouri Police for the first time got two drug peddlers detained in Central Jail Kote Bhalwal, Jammu under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. "one of the accused Arshad Ahmed is involved in two criminal cases registered against FIR No.209/2014 and FIR No. 240/2010 (both under NDPS Act) at P/S Rajouri while Rajan Gupta alias Ladi is booked in four drug peddling cases under FIR No.210/2014 at P/S Rajouri, FIR No.45/2012 at P/S Dharamsal, FIR No.386/2011 at P/S Rajouri and FIR No. 24/2010 at P/S Kalakote, Police spokesperson said. Meanwhile addressing a press conference here today in Rajouri, Sr Superintencent of Police (SSP) Rajouri Dr Hasseb Mughal said, "Constant pressure is being maintained against the drug paddlers by establishing Special Nakas, strengthening of District Special Branch." Lauding efforts from police, he said, "Rajouri police under the supervision of AK Attri, DIG police Rajouri-Poonch Range have initiated a drive against the criminals involved in drug trafficking, bovine smuggling, crime against women, anti- social & anti-national activities and during last 8 months police have arrested 19 persons involved in drug trafficking and booked them in 15 cases." "Apart from taking action against drug peddlers, Rajouri Police is regularly organizing symposium, seminars and debates on the topic "Drug Menace" to create awareness among the people in general and youth in particular about the ill effects of drugs and a "Drug Helpline" bearing telephone No.01962-261786 has been started for the convenience of the general public to end the drug menace from district, SSP Rajouri said. SSP also informed that during last 8 months 581 bovine animals were rescued by the Rajouri police and have booked 161 smugglers, Rs 6,30,100 fine was collected from the traffic rules violators, Rs 2,80,000 fine was realized under COPTA Act and out of 1176 cases of 858 cases were challaned in the Court in 'crime against women'. |
