Congress criticizes Govt. for imposing tax on helicopter tickets | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 6: Congress senior leader Ashok Sharma and district president Jammu Naresh Sharma today has criticized the BJP-PDP coalition government for imposing 12.5% tax on tickets of helicopter operating between Katra and Shanjichhat. Sharma said that imposition of tax on helicopter tickets is unwanted interference in the functioning of the autonomous Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board by the State Government which will not only affect the number of visiting pilgrims to the holy cave shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji but will also send a wrong signal across the country. "Constitution of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board by a Special Act was aimed to provide better facilities and services to the pilgrims on no profit no loss basis, which the board could achieve by institutionalizing it under the stewardship of the respective Governors as Chairmen of the board from time to time, resulting into increased the number of pilgrims many folds", Sharma said. These unexpected results came into being with regard to the tourist thrust because of amazing facilities provided with regard to development of tracks on way, consumable goods, utilities facilities, cleaning system and accommodation on minimum possible charges. Meanwhile Sharma has written a letter to the state Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister urging them to withdraw the tax on Heli tickets in the best interest of the pilgrims, people of the state at large and peace and harmony in the Jammu and Kashmir. |
