JU's DDE turns into a money minting machine | | | Avinash Azad

Jammu, Sept 6: The university of Jammu is cheating the students who have enrolled with various courses offered. The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) of JU has a total 22 faculty members for 17554 students enrolled for various courses although it earns huge revenue. "In the main campus 3187 students are enrolled and 450 students are enrolled in seven offsite campuses of the JU. There are 254 teachers (members in various faculties) and 142 teachers are there for 450 students at offsite campuses", sources informed ET, alleging that students at DDE are being cheated by the University and Education Minister as well who is taking 'remedial' steps for better education system in state. "In DDE 5627 students are enrolled for bachelors degrees' including BA/B.Com and 11927 students are enrolled for PG courses", sources said. Ridiculing Vice Chancellor Dr R D Sharma sources how 22 teachers appointed for 10 subjects can justify their job to teach thousands of students. "There are 11 permanent and 11 contractual teachers in the DDE", they revealed. They further said that on other hand in main and its offsite campuses more than required appointments had been made. "MA Buddhist Studies three teachers for eight students, in Punjabi five teachers for 30, Psychology six teachers 51 students and in Sociology six teachers for 66 students, M. Lib 17 students three teachers, B. Lib 21students two teachers, MSc Physics and Electronic 119 students 18 teachers, MSc Botany 58 students 10 teachers, MSc Zoology 60 students eight teachers, MSc Geology 58 students 12 teachers and in MSc Environment Science 54 students and seven teachers", sources informed, adding that there are some department in the main campus and offsite campuses as well where number of students and teachers is equal. "MSc Microbiology four students and three teachers, Bio Chemistry 16 students and three teachers in Bio Technology 25 student and seven teachers, MSc Chemistry 97 students 11 teachers and in MSc Home Science 42 students and five teachers", they added. "Bhaderwah offsite campus 84 students enrolled in subject and there are 25 teachers Udhampur campus 88 students enrolled for two subjects and nine teachers, Kishtwar campus 41 students in three subjects and there are 10 teachers, Reasi campus 21 students four teachers, Ramnagar Campus 94 students and 11 teachers, Kathua campus has 101 students for two courses and there are 13 teachers and in Poonch campus 21 students and two teachers are there" sources informed. Lambasting the Education Minister over injustice with the students enrolled in DDE, sources said that the DDE has turned into an industry which earns profit. "Un-aware about the corporative of JU administration, students who enrol themselves in DDE are being fleeced by the University administration on the name education", they commented. |
