| IATO criticizes Service Tax on pilgrims | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 11: IATO J&K Chapter and the Travel Fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir expressed their strong resentment on levying Service Tax on pilgrims on availing helicopter facility.
As per press release, facts and figures are being twisted about by these political parties to give it a communal tint and rouse un-necessary passions while misleading the common masses. What is frightening is that even some media houses have jumped into this fray and are un-necessarily fanning the communal fire. It is most surprising that those people who consider themselves as the leaders of the masses are again pushing the entire state into a morass of political and communal brinkmanship forgetting that in this process the forthcoming tourist season of Pooja Holidays will be ruined & cause a loss of above Rs. 300 crores to the Tourism & Hospitality Industry of the state.
Service Tax on Commercial Helicopter Operations was introduced in 2011 by the Union Govt. which incidentally was of the Indain National Congress Party. The States of Himachal & Uttarakhand, have been levying Service Tax on all Helicopter flights to Mani Mahesh (Chamba) & Kedarnath - Badrinath sectors respectively, since then. |
