srinagar, Sept 11: Screening test for Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers in J&K is likely to spark a new controversy as the Government is mulling to give clerical jobs to those teachers who fail to qualify the test.
Government sources told Early Times that scrutiny of degree certificates of ReT teachers is going on in full swing but the Education Minister Naeem Akhtar Andrabi is mulling to adjust those teachers who fail to qualify the test on clerical posts.
Such a move is not only seen as a bizarre violation of the recruitment rules but would also tantamount to snatching the rights of thousands of jobless youth who are moving from pillar to post in search of jobs.
"It is strange and shocking that you are placing a teacher at a place which is meant for some other person. It is as if you are giving mason's job to the carpenter," an official told Early Times.
He said certain set of rules need to be amended if such a move is practised in the State. "There are recruitment rules through which youth are given Government jobs in the State. The ReT teachers would have been recruited via the other mode of recruitment. Same cannot be generalised in the Education Department. Clerical jobs are meant for clerks and not teachers," said the official.
Earlier, the decision to hold screening test for ReTs triggered an outcry with the aggrieved teachers taking to streets to protest against it. A lockdown was also witnessed in Government schools for one day against this decision.
Apprehending large scale protests, the Government later decided to downplay the issue and pacify the aggrieved teachers. And now the Government has decided to adjust the ReTs in some other departments.
Apparently, the Government's move to pacify the teachers is likely to stir up a hornet's nest and this time the jobless youth would perceive it as snatching of their rights.
