Opposition apart, both ruling allies fearing resentment from own MLAs | 'Unimpressive report' card in its kitty, Govt slashes session to 7 days | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 11: On a sticky wicket over a host of issues ranging from political to development related matters, the PDP-BJP alliance has given nod to autumn Assembly session which will not have business for more than a week. Both the alliance partners are wary of the fact that its own 'house' is not happy and that they may join opposition chorus on a host of issues while the latter will corner the Government during the session. Sources said there is an undercurrent of resentment, if not rebellion from within both the ruling parties PDP and BJP over a number of problems that have cropped up during the last few months of governance. This resentment is likely to be reflected by way of outburst once the session begins through scheduled business, besides questions to which all legislators are entitled to seek answers from the Government, sources said while explaining the compelling mode of the Government to keep it (session) a short one, for the sake of fulfilling constitutional obligation. Sources said while PDP is aware that opposition NC and Congress will corner the Government on public related issue of rehabilitation of flood victims, it is more cautious and worried about the possibility of its own party MLAs raking up the issue in a forceful manner and joining opposition chorus. The latest political issue of HC ban on beef, if unsettled by that time, will also resonate more against PDP by all Kashmir based legislators cutting across party lines, sources said explaining the apprehensions of the ruling party. Sources also said similar concern and anxieties are for the BJP Ministers who are all set to face ire from opposition on a host of issues on which the party promised skies at least for the people of Jammu. From a failed development front to controversies like AIIMS issue and the recent one on imposition of ST on heli services to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, the party MLAs may join the opposition protest on several occasions when these are raised in the Assembly. The BJP as the ruling party is also facing resentment not only at the level of legislators but also from almost all Ministers of State who are a disgruntled lot, said the sources adding that their discontentment has been steaming up for the fact that they have no say in the Government and they are mere symbolic chairs in the power shared by two parties. Their unequivocal concern is that they are not being taken into confidence even on simple Government decisions nor made aware about the implementation aspect of the decisions, sources said adding that this angst of MoS lot may also matter for the Government during the session as also in preparing for the response of the Government for the session business. |
