Trying to defy HC order of ban on beef sale, separatist leader raises pro-Pak slogans | Pak flags waved during rally | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sep 11: Defying the J&K high court order imposing a ban on sale of beef in the state, separatist Shabir Ahmad Shah today created a flutter when he tried to slaughter a bovine animal at Pulwama Chowk here. Immediately after Friday prayers, Shah appeared in Pulwama Chowk and started raising anti-national slogans. He was joined by his supporters. He along with his supporters waved Pak flags and took a dig at the High Court order of imposing a ban on the sale of beef in the state while threatening people at the helm of affairs of the dire consequences if the ban was not revoked immediately. Shah termed the court as an infringement in the religious affairs of Muslims. He tried to vitiate the atmosphere at Pulwama town when he asked the people to join him in the slaughtering of a bovine animal. As soon as he started the process, police personnel present there resorted to teargas shelling and chased them away. Shah was later arrested by police, but by then the shopkeepers at Pulwama had downed their shutters. The situation returned to normal after some time. Trouble also broke out in the Nawab Bazar area of Srinagar city as police resorted to heavy shelling on a group of people who had assembled there to defy the court order. After the Friday prayers a group of people assembled at the Nawab Bazar bridge and brought an animal so that it was slaughtered but their attempt was foiled as police resorted to heavy teargas shelling. Posters and photographs of LeT founder and Pak terrorist Hafiz Saeed, HM's Syed Salahudin and local HM commander Burhan Wani were displayed by a group of protesters at Nowhatta Chowk. Immediately after the Friday prayers a group of masked men appeared near the Jamia Masjid and resorted to stone pelting on the police personnel. As the stone pelting was going on a group of protesters could be seen displaying posters of Saeed, Salahudin and Burhan. The stone pelting that started from the Jamia Masjid spread to the Nowhatta, Gojwara and Rajouri Kadal areas. Police fired teargas shells to disperse them. At the same time Hurriyat Conference (G) activists, members of High Court Bar Association, Muslim Khawateen Markaz and Mutahida Majlis Ulema carried out separate protest rallies against the order imposing ban on beef in the state. Some of the Hurriyat (G) activists were arrested by the police near the Hamza Masjid. |
