Alleged discriminatory act of Presentation Convent School | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 11: The Presentation Convent School Jammu is alleged to have adopted discriminatory attitude towards students of different communities studying in the institution. As the 3-day festival of a particular community starts from September 25, the school has asked its students to appear for the examination on September 26. Whereas many other private schools have postponed the examination date colliding with the festival, the convent school hasn't. As per the official calendar of J&K Government, September 25 and 26 are gazetted holidays as a result of which all Government and private institutions running in the State have to keep their institutions closed for these two days but the convent school is allegedly not adhering to the guidelines of the State Government as it has strictly asked its students to appear in the September 26 exam. In the Presentation Convent School, Jammu, students of all communities are studying but the school authorities are alleged to have adopted a discriminatory attitude towards the students of the particular community. Many students are from far off areas of Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar while some are from Kashmir. In view of the examination scheduled for September 26, they are unable to go homes. When contacted over phone, the school principal refused to talk, citing busy schedule. Parents of the students of particular community have called upon the State Government to ask the school to follow its guideline. |
