Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 11: As the top heads of Pak Rangers and Border Security Force (BSF) are sitting across the table to find out the ways and means on how to restore normalcy along the International Border and implement ceasefire agreement of November 2003, the Pakistan troops continue to breach the truce along Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district while uneasy calm prevails along International Border (IB).
According to official sources "Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations in Hamirpur sector of Poonch in wee hours today,"
Defence spokesperson Jammu, Lt Col Manish Mehta today confirming the incident said Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations in Hamirpur sector of Poonch in wee hours today from automatic and heavy machine guns and targeted the forward Indian posts."
"The area witnessed ceasefire violations by Pakistan army between 0400 hours and 0500 hours today," he said, adding, own troops retaliated effectively.
He however added that there is no report of any casualty or damage so far. Meanwhile the guns remained silent along International Border (IB) though there was an uneasy calm in border villages especially in R S Pura Sector where three persons were killed and over a dozen were injured in heavy firing on August 28.
Pertinently Pakistani troops already have violated the ceasefire for eleven times in September month this year.
The firing by Pakistan comes in the midst of Indo-Pak border guard talks in Delhi during which it was agreed yesterday to end ceasefire violations by devising new strategies like joint patrolling in some areas along the International Border (IB) in J&K as chiefs of BSF and Pakistan Rangers met against the backdrop of escalation in tension.
Here it needs to mention that there has been a spurt in ceasefire violations along IB and LoC since the August month especially the Udhampur Terror attack on August 5. However the focus of ceasefire violations kept on shifting from LoC to IB and vice versa.
