Jammu, Sept 14: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, along with several other high rank leaders today expressed profound sorrow and grief on the sudden demise of veteran Congress leader and a prominent political personality of State, Janak Raj Gupta.
In a telephonic conversation to Gupta's son Vicky Mahajan, Congress president reportedly expressed her condolences over the sudden demise and expressed sympathies with the family members.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Gulam Nabi Azad, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee leaders and members, while leaders across political parties were present during cremation at Jogi Gate.
In a message, Azad reportedly said that passing away of Janak Raj Gupta has created fathomless void in the political landscape of the State which is not easy to be bridged.
Janak Raj Gupta was a remarkable politician, extraordinary human being and a strong pillar of Congress Party", said Azad, adding that his passing away is a colossal loss for the State and the Party.
Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Senior Congress Leader and Former Union Minister, condoling the sad demise of Janak Raj Gupta.
"He expressed deepest anguish at the sad demise of Janak Raj Gupta, a veteran leader of the Congress Party.
Soz said "I had known Janak Raj Gupta for a long time as a gentleman with a deep commitment to the Congress Party". Late Janak Raj Gupta was accessible to the party workers and he tried his best to solve their problems. Late Janak Raj Gupta's death will be mourned widely. His demise is a great loss to the Congress Party."
Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof Amitabh Mattoo today expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Janak Raj Gupta, a senior Congress leader and former Member Parliament.
In his condolence message, Prof Mattoo has expressed his sympathies with the bereaved family and has prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Governor N.N. Vohra has condoled the demise of veteran Congress leader and former Member Parliament, Janak Raj Gupta, who passed away at Jammu on Sunday.
Recalling that he had first met Mr. Gupta when he was elected to the Parliament, the Governor observed that this popular political leader's style of functioning was marked by decency and decorum.

District Congress Committee President Former MLC Subash Gupta while expressing his condolence uttered deep shock and grief over the passing away of Veteran Congress Leader & Ex. MP Janak Raj Gupta who breathed his last Sunday morning. Through a press handout, Subash Gupta said that he felt disappointed to hear about the sad demise of Former MP and termed his death a great loss for the Party and the people.
"While offering his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, Subash Gupta said that we have lost a visionary and upright personality in the death of Janak Raj Gupta, he prayed for eternal peace to departed soul.
Awami National Conference has expressed shock over sad and untimely demise of veteran Congress leader and former Member of Parliament Janak Raj Gupta (79) who passed away at Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu Yesterday. Party President Begum Khalida Shah and Vice President, Muzzafar Shah conveying their heartfelt condolences said that Gupta's death had created a invaluable void in the political landscape of the state which was not easy to fill."Janak Raj Gupta was a remarkable politician, extraordinary human being and strong pillar of the Congress and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
