True face of Bhartiya Janata Party | Beef Controversy | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 14: What kind of this party, called BJP, is? Has it any ideology? Does it venerate cows? What does it actually stand for? How many faces the BJP has? What does the BJP want? These are some of the questions the concerned people of Jammu region have been asking these days. The BJP has by its words, deeds and contradictory stands on the same issue disturbed the people, particularly those who voted for it in the 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. First they questioned the BJP's intentions when it forged an alliance with a party that had lambasted it and its supreme leaders like Narendra Modi and its mentor, the RSS. Then they questioned the power-sharing deal that the BJP struck with the PDP to become part of the Government. They questioned the deal because it was fundamentally Valley-centric. Thereafter, they questioned the agenda of alliance on the basis of which the coalition Government was formed in last March. They questioned it because it was essentially Kashmir-centric, Pakistan and Hurriyat-friendly, out-and-out anti-Jammu, anti-Ladakh, anti-minorities, anti-refugees, divisive and so on. They described it as an "agenda of subversion", "a new charter of bondage for Jammu" and "another rivet in the chain of Jammu slavery" and urged the BJP to withdraw it. Then they questioned the manner in which the AIIMS, which was sanctioned for Jammu, was shifted to Kashmir. Thereafter, they questioned the stand of the BJP on the Dogra certificate and denounced the BJP saying that its stand on the issue was dubious and accused it of humiliating the people of Jammu region, especially the unemployed Dogra youth. Another issue that shocked and provoked the people of Jammu and made them lambaste the BJP was its dubious stand on the imposition of "Jazya tax" on Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage. In between, they also questioned the very credentials of the Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh, who had declared that no power on earth could snatch AIIMS from Kashmir and it will not be established in Jammu and accused New Delhi of exploiting the State territories and its waters. And, on Sunday, the people of Jammu region asked the BJP to clear its stand on ban on beef eating in Jammu & Kashmir. They got the biggest shock when the Kashmir BJP announced that it would host a function (beef party) where beef would be served to the Muslims and vegetarian food to the non-Muslims, saying such an effort would promote "secularism" in the State. All the Kashmiri parties, including the PDP, the NC and the Congress applauded the Kashmiri BJP leadership and its secular gesture. The Jammu BJP leadership didn't react like it had done when the Kashmir-based BJP spokesperson described the imposition of "Jazya tax" as a non-issue. The Jammu BJP only made a vague statement to mislead and hoodwink the people of Jammu region. Why is the BJP doing all this? Is it punishing the people of Jammu region for the crime they committed by voting for it? No political party ever functions like the BJP has been. It's no wonder then the people are waiting for an opportunity to punish it, saying that "it is worse than the Congress" and that "it represents Kashmir in Jammu". |
