3 Contenders in race not 'acceptable' to cadre…! | J&K BJP to have new President soon | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 14: J&K BJP is all set to have new President anytime soon. With announcement of one of the senior leaders as election in charge, the ball has been set rolling for the elections for state president post in BJP. As the process is all set to begin shortly, three names are emerging as strong contenders for the prestigious post who will replace incumbent Jugal Kishore Sharma. All the three, if insiders are to be believed, are not acceptable to the cadre and workers of the party for varied reasons, the common one being that they are already holding on one post or position, there is no point entrusting them with additional responsibility. Sources said one of the names which is doing rounds as front runner for the president's post is Sat Sharma, at present MLA (Jammu West). The leadership of the party has more or less given nod for active consideration. But the workers and cadres are a little reluctant for a couple of reasons, sources said. One that even though he won the Assembly elections, he is still being seen as an 'outsider' within the party , his earlier political innings having been with National Conference. Moreover, he is sitting MLA of the party and already taking care of the constituency which enabled him to win, sources said, adding that this responsibility is being seen as huge for any president to carry on with the task of both the responsibilities. A similar ground for reluctance, rather objection at the cadre level is for Vibodh Gupta, whom party made MLC. Since the party has given him position and status post formation of Government, the cadres see no reason to elevate him for the post of president, particularly in the wake of the fact there are many senior leaders within the party who can deliver in a better way out of their experience and political acumen. Sources further said the third strong contender for the president's post is Chander Mohan Sharma, who is also considered to be 'outsider' on account of his association with Praja Parishad. The argument by those opposing all the three contenders is that there is no dearth of much experienced and senior leaders in the party whose services can be availed for this coveted post for this term rather than relying completely on those who are already holding good positions and status. |
