Would Rana, Arora support cow slaughter in JK? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 14: Main opposition party National Conference has decided to move a Bill in the coming session of the Assembly to bring changes in the existing laws which bans slaughtering of bovine animals including cows. The National Conference has said that it will introduce a bill in the State Assembly for changes in a 1932 law which bans the slaughter of cattle and the sale and purchase of beef. The law had rarely been followed in the State but last week, the High Court ordered the police to strictly enforce the ban, which led to protests. After decision of the National Conference to introduce a bill in this regard, big question is "Will Devender Singh Rana, MLA from Nagrota Assembly segment and Kamal Arora, MLA Bishnah Assembly seat support the Bill?". Sentiments of minority community were attached with slaughtering of bovine animals and eating of beef. Both the National Conference (NC) MLAs belong to the constituencies which are pre-dominated by Hindu majority. Will they support decision of the their high command to allow slaughtering of bovine animals and sale, eat and purchase of beef in the State including Jammu region. We are introducing a bill to decriminalise the sale and consumption of beef in Jammu and Kashmir," said National Conference leader Nasir Wani, a former Minister. The National Conference has also demanded that the State Government should bring an ordinance or executive order to allow the slaughter of cattle in the upcoming Bakr-Eid festival. Independent MLA Engineer Abdul Rashid has also submitted a bill to reverse the beef ban. The court's order on last Wednesday led to an uproar and a strike call by fundamentalist groups. |
