Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 14: Propagators of the so-called "Azadi movement" in Kashmir Valley had shamelessly molested some helpless female athletes during 21 kilometers long international marathon at Hazaratbal in Srinagar on Sunday but leaders like Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, Yasin Malik and members of the civil society of Kashmir have maintained a criminal silence on this criminal act.
The way these leaders have maintained a silence on this most heinous and inhuman act committed by some miscreants is a clear indication that these so-called "Rehnumas" of Kashmir have doled out license of lumpen elements to do anything in the name of "Azadi". Shockingly these leaders, who availed every opportunity to launch malicious campaign against security forces, have uttered not even a single word against those scoundrels who were indulged into molesting girls amidst shouting of pro-Azad slogans. These Azadi seekers were also indulged into eve-teasing and passing lewd comments on female participants during the event.
The so-called civil society of Kashmir, which is in the forefront to encouraging those who have been indulged in slaughtering bovine animals to hurt sentiments of minority community, is also tight lipped over molestation of girls.
What is more unfortunate that some members of the Kashmir civil society were shamelessly shifting blames on females for treatment given to them by the supporters of "Azadi" . On social media, these people were arguing that girls should not participate in such events and by participating in such events they (girls) have themselves invited troubles for them.
PDP president and MP Mehbooba Mufti had expressed her dismay over the alleged incidents of molestation and eve-teasing and said, "Such a rowdy behaviour is unacceptable in a civilised society. The State's civil society should rise against such unruly behaviour where our daughters are being dishonoured by misguided, disruptive elements."
"I do not know what was wrong with this marathon and why the youth tried not only to disrupt it but also to humiliate the female participants both from within and outside the State," she said.
