JU organizes seminar on 'Ismat Chughtai in the Light of her Short Stories' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 14: In connection with the centaury celebration of legendary short story writer Ismat Chughtai, the department of Urdu, Jammu University today organized one day National seminar on the topic "Ismat Chughtai in the Light of her Short Stories". The seminar was held in the Prof. Gian Chand Jain seminar hall of the department of Urdu. Asif Malik, Dr. Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, Dr. Sadaf Shah and Prof. Khawaja Ekram acted as resource persons of the seminar who is detail threw light on different aspects of short stories written by Ismat Chughtai. Themes, characters and art of Ismat Chughtai was discussed in detail by resource persons. They described Ismat a short story writer par excellence. They made a critical survey of various short stories of Ismat Chughtai and described her towering short story writer who gave new dimensions to Urdu short stories. HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik criticized the State Government for not establishing the Urdu academy in the state. "Urdu is the official language of the State but are being neglected by the State Government. Coming heavily on those forces who relate Urdu with particular religion," he said, adding that Urdu is a Indian Language and had played a vital role in the freedom struggle of India. It is Urdu because of which India is united from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. He also paid rich tributes to Ismat Chughtai. Prof. Qudosse Javed , former HOD Kashmir University also spoke on the occasion. The proceeding of the one day National seminar was conducted by Dr. Mohd Reyaz Ahmed while vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Farhat Shamim. Students, scholars, faculty members and member of the civil society also attended the seminar. |
