Jammu, Sept 14: Jammu Kashmir National Panther Party (JKNPP) activists held a massive demonstration outside the office of Director Health against the ailing health care sector in the state and the shabby plight of various health institutes suffering for want of staff, medicines and equipments. According to press release, the protestors were chanting slogans of "Health Minister Hai Hai", "Doctors aur para medical staff ki kami door karo", "Hera Pheri Nahin Chelegi", Choor Bazari Nahin chalegi" and they also torched the effigy of concerned minister. The protestors were addressed by Harsh Dev Singh, Balwant Singh Mankotia, and Yash Paul Kundal. Alleging that the health sector was in shambles, Harsh Dev Singh lashed out at the senior functionaries of the department for what he described as miss governance, rampant corruption, transfer industry, spurious drugs, large scale attachments and deployments, acute deficiency of doctors and para medical staff especially in the remote area, non availability of medicines and equipments in Health institutions and mushrooming growth of quacks and non registered practitioners with full connivance of health department functionaries. He further said that the Safai Karmacharis are running the heath centres in several villages and it is fact that they are called as 'doctor sahib' by the villagers, adding, "The Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the town do not have the requisite staff, medicines, essential facilities of X-ray machines, ultra sound and ECGs facilities which are basic", he regretted. Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion included Rajesh Padgotra, Pavan Dev Singh, Gagan Pratap Singh, Sham Gorka, Dharam Singh, Baldev Singh Mankotia, Sudesh Singh Barnal, Subash Chander, Angrez Singh, Inderpal Singh, Ravinder Jamwal besides several others. |
