Narco-smuggling bid foiled, 08 kgs of Bhukki recovered | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Sept 14: In continuation with its intensive drive launched by the District Police Kathua against the drug peddlers, Police today claimed to have foiled a narcotics smuggling bid with recovery of 08 kgs of contraband the poppy straw (Bhukki). "Acting on a specific information, today a Police Party of P/S Lakhanpur led by SHO P/S Lakhanpur laid down a naka at NHW near Jagatpur, Kathua and intercepted a vehicle (Innova) bearing regd No: PB01-8535 on its way from Jammu towards Punjab, police spokesperson said. He said, "Police party signaled the vehicle to stop for checking but the driver of vehicle instead of halting the vehicle accelerated it and managed to flee from the naka. "However he failed to control the rashly driven vehicle after covering some distance and hit a truck parked (PB06D-2278) parked on roadside resulting injuries to driver and three occupants of vehicle. Police team apprehended the innova driver and during search of vehicle police recovered 08 Kgs of poppy straw (Bhukki) which was hidden under the driver seat of the vehicle. Later police shifted injured persons to District Hospital (DH) Kathua for medical treatment. Meanwhile a case under FIR No: 70/2015 u/s 279, 337 RPC 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered against the accused at P/S Lakhanpur, police said. Police spokesperson also said drive against drug peddlers is being carried out under the overall supervision of SP Kathua, Neeva Jain-IPS. |
