Need for international cooperation to check ISIS threat | | | It seems that during the current trip to the US and other nations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mind is preoccupied with one main issue of menace of terror and the activities of terrorists.Modi has given an expression to his desire to seek international cooperation for ending the menace of terror. If Modi is upset over the rise of ISIS he is not to be blamed because he and his country India has experienced the side effects of terror, terror exported from the soil of Pakistan.India has witnessed the rise of Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan. These terror outfits have been the source of blood shed and vast devastation of private and Government infrastructure in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Whatever limitations were experienced by Al Qaeda and the Taliban for extending their areas of influence and activities were already filled by the birth of ISIS. In fact what is intriguing and amazing is the way the ISIS activists have wrought havoc in various Islamic countries provoking leaders of the Al Qaeda and the Taliban to treat ISIS activities unislamic and barbaric. Whatever may be the motivation behind the rise of the ISIS its activists have derailed peace in scores of Islamic countries, including Syria,Turkey,Iran,Iraq etc and the result of the violence level raised by the ISIS has kicked up a situation in which several thousand people have been forced to flee to safer areas. Several thousand families have been rendered refugees in one go. In view of this grim situation Modi has acknowledged that the dreaded terror group Islamic State poses "one of the greatest challenges" facing the international community as he emphasised on the need to delink terrorism from religion as a weapon in the fight against terror. In a meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, Modi discussed ways to prevent the radicalisation of youth and to counter extremist messaging. Both leaders acknowledged that the ISIS was one of the greatest challenges facing the international community. The Prime Minister said there is a need to delink terrorism from religion.Modi said the only way to combat international terrorism and the menace of organisations like the IS (also known as ISIS) was to have a global response.Referring to the long-pending proposal of a comprehensive convention on international terrorism, he said the time has now come for the international community to speak on one voice on this important issue and adopt this global convention. The rise of ISIS has confirmed fears that terror has no religion because its activists being staunch Muslims have indulged in the dance of death in Islamic countries. And Modi is right when he sought collaboration at the international level for ending the menace of terror.Neither terror nor the activities of terrorists can be contained or eliminated by one or a couple of countries. There is need for all developed and developing nations, irrespective of the type of Governments these nations have and irrespective of consideration of religion of caste,to join hands for fighting terror. In fact march of terrorists have threatened peace and has hit development programme. As a result of terror, poverty, unemployment, conflicts and confusion levels have increased in the world. There is need for the Governments in the developed and developing nations to earmark separate funds for combating terror and it may be the right step if these developed and developing nations set up a peace keeping force. Men of this peace keeping force be drawn from all those countries keen to fight terror should be assigned the task of fighting terrorists wherever they are active. This way it may be the world forces versus terrorists or to be precise it may be world forces versus ISIS.In that case the ISIS would be eliminated. |
