Contractors stage protest against I&FC Department | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Sept 30: Scores of contractors under the banner of Central Contractors Union on Wednesday locked Irrigation Division Anantnag office to register their protest against the government. Protesting contractors were demanding release of payment for the works which they have done under centrally sponsored scheme AIBP and enhancement of plan ceiling for the current financial year. The protesters led by Farooq Ahmad, secretary of the Committee, raised slogans demanding of release of their pending bills under centrally sponsored scheme AIBP. They locked the office of Irrigation Division Anantnag in protest due to which the official work in the division remained effected. Contractors told Early Times that post floods due to non-payment of bills they haven't took part in any tendering process. "We have stopped working and bidding since Septemeber-2014 floods," they claimed. Providing details, they said that an amount of Rs. 1710.79 lacs was the approved allocation under centrally sponsored scheme AIBP Irrigation Division Anantnag for the year 2014-15 as conveyed vide govt. order No. 41-PD of 2015 dated:9 March 2015 and vide letter No. 1D/Ang/ 2668 Irrigation Division Anantnag executed the works for the earmarked allocation of Rs. 1710.79, however an amount of Rs. 187.70 was released at the end which caused liability of Rs. 1523.00 lacs. Sukhnandan Kumar, Minster of Irrigation and Flood Control on being contacted assured early redressal of the problem. "Post September-2014 floods central government hadn't released the amount under AIBP Scheme it is fact. After assembly session I will personally rush to New Delhi and ensure the release of funds," he said. |
