Hizb militants responsible for killings in Pattan, Sopore: Police | | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, Sept 30: Police today said that investigations in Pattan and Tangmarg killings have revealed that all the four militants whose bullet ridden bodies were found in North Kashmir earlier this month have become the prey of 'group rivalry.' Meanwhile, DIG North Kashmir Range Garib Dass said that they have arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) for questioning. A senior police official said that during the investigation it has come to fore that Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants are involved in the killing of three youth namely Amir Reshi, Ashiq Hussain Wani and Naveed Ahmed. The official said that trio was affiliated with expelled group of HM led by Qayoom Najar. "Investigations revealed that a group of Hizb militants first tortured these youth and then killed them just because they were part of Lashkar-e Islam (LeI) led by Qayoom Najar. The trio of the killed militants was responsible for multiple attacks on mobile towers in North Kashmir," said the official. The official said that to 'avenge' the killing of his comrades, Qayoom Najar led LeI group shot dead one of the top ranked Hizb militant in Tangmarg area. "These killings were the fall out of group rivalry and it was an open and shut case but, the biggest challenge for us was to identify the killers of innocent child Burhan and his father who were mercilessly killed by the killers in Sopore town and investigation in this regard is going on in full swing," said the official. Meanwhile, DIG Garib Dass told Early Times that two separate FIRs have been registered in these killings and after apprehending the killers the police will file a charge sheet in the court of law. "As of now we have constituted a special team headed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Sopore Abdul Qayoom to investigate the matter. Investigation is almost complete and the killers two in number have been identified. Both the killers are Over Ground Workers (OGW) of militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT)," said Dass. When asked about the Pattan and Sopore killings, he said that these are totally two different stories. He said the main focus is to nab the killers of Burhan, who was killed by unidentified gunmen in Sopore along with his father. Three-year-old boy Burhan, who was injured on Sep 18, when his father, a former militant, was gunned down by unidentified persons, had succumbed to his injuries on Sep 20. The killing of father- son was widely condemned from all quarters across the state. Three bullet ridden bodies were found in an orchard at Dangarpora Pattan on September 14 whom police later identified as "Lashkar-e-Islam" (LeI) militants Amir Reshi of Hardsheva Sopore, Ashiq Hussain Wani of Lolipora Pattan and Naveed Ahmed of Batapora Sopore. Barely four days later body of a HM militant Fayaz Ahmed Bhat of Wayil Pattan was recovered from Devbugh paddy fields in Kunzar Tangmarg. |
