Intake capacity 300, but only 135 students join SMVDU | | | Sumit Sharma Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 2: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) is failing to attract students as out of the intake capacity of 300, only 135 students have joined this year, raising questions about the efficiency of administration. Further, the varsity authorities have admitted a student in the five-year integrated course of M Sc Economics even as she had not qualified the Class 12 exams. The girl namely Apoorva Jamwal was declared re-appear. She took admission in the university provisionally on the plea that she had applied for the re-evaluation. Sources said the re-evaluation established that the girl had indeed failed. If the sources are to be believed, the Registrar who is the administrator of the university is himself a violator of the UGC norms. Neither he has 15-year experience as administrator in any educational institution nor has 8-year experience as Deputy Registrar. Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor S.K Jain ducked queries on the appointment of the Registrar. On the drop in number of students joining the university, Jain passed the buck to Central Seats Allocation Board for their delay in allocating seats to the students. He said the matter would be taken up with the executive council at Raj Bhawan. On Apporva's case, the VC said the university is willing to admit those students who have got re-appear in one subject. He even urged other universities to follow the same pattern for the welfare of the students. |
