Will coalition boat sink or survive? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 2: A big test awaits PDP-BJP coalition government as the autumn session of Assembly begins on Saturday in Srinagar. The beef ban issue will dominate the session as both the coalition partners have different stands on it. While the BJP is in favour of implementation of the ban on beef sale and wants the law to be strengthened, the PDP is in a dilemma. PDP's constituency, Kashmir valley, from where they get maximum seats, want to scrap the beef ban law and allow Muslim population to eat whatever is permitted in their religion. Both BJP and PDP leaders have been issuing contradictory statements, and sacking of Assistant Advocate General and Deputy Advocate General of Jammu further vitiated the already tense atmosphere. PDP doesn't want to leave the chair for which its leaders were kept waiting for six years, but working against the wishes of people of Kashmir Valley may cost them dearly in the future. Main opposition party, National Conference, is putting its all weight behind to get the bill, scrapping of Section 298-A and 298-B, passed in the Assembly and score extra points and get back their lost ground in the Valley and Muslim pockets of Jammu region. The next few days are going to be very crucial for the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state and PDP will have to take a stand to get out of this puzzle, according to observers. |
