Mahatma Gandhi, Shastri remembered | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 2 : Birth anniversaries of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri were celebrated in Jammu division Friday. Padamshri SP Varma Vice President GGF, presented Indo-UN pins to Dr Pawan Kotwal Divisional Commissioner and Sangeeta Gupta Principal Income Tax Commissioner for their contributions towards society on behalf of Director United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, New Delhi. Sangeeta Gupta Principal Income Tax Commissioner stressed upon to follow the principles laid down by the freedom fighters and participate in eradicating the social evils prevailing in the society, while Anjali Sharma Director Doordarshan underlined the power of Non Violence in building Peaceful world. While addressing the participants, SP Varma said that for the last 26 years we are celebrating the birth anniversary of Mahatma at Dewan-E-Aam and usually people from all faiths pay their floral tributes to Father of the Nation coming from far off places. Congress Seva Dal Doda : leaders of Congress Seva Dal Doda, also celebrated the Gandhi Jayanti with childrens at village level in the Panchayats Choundary, Sindra, Soura and Bearru of the block bhalla today under the leadership of its chief Er. Surinder Singh Manhas, the Gandhi Jayanti programme was organized in fifteen different places of the villages in the hilly remote areas with children for awareness among the youth and children about our freedom fighters struggle. On the occasion floral tributes were also paid to Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary and said there is need of the hour to aware our children and youth about Gandhism and strengthen strong secular fabric for better future of the younger generation and nation. GDC Doda, On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, GDC Doda commemorated the International Day of Non-Violence. A symposium was organized where about 10 students participated. Of these Gazi, Mussarat and Umar each of B.Sc. Part-II were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Dr. R K Raina was chief guest on the occasion who in his speech addressed the students to commemorate Gandhiji's message of truth, 'satya-graha' (or 'truth-force'), non-violence, tolerance, social justice and simple-living, and to spread the message of peace and harmony in the world. Nationalist Congress Party today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti here at Jammu. According to press release, NCP chief Thakur Randhir Singh said that all party members paid tribute to father of nation and Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 146 birth anniversary. Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that to fight out against the corruption now has become a cancer particularly among political class, bureaucrats, and corporate world. Minister of Industries and Commerce, Chander Prakash Ganga today said that the production of Khadi and Village Industries Sector has touched Rs 833 crore in the year 2014-15 in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a function organised by KVIB here to commemorate the Gandhi Jyanti, the Minister said Jammu and Kashmir Khadi & Village Industries Board has till date financed 44729 units thereby generating employment opportunities for 84814 persons in the State. He said more than 90 Khadi institutions are working in the state which provide direct employment to thousands of artisans and produce Khadi goods worth Rs 59 crores. He said the present Coalition Government is keen to develop Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) of Jammu and Kashmir. FFA celebrates Shastri's birthdays : J&K Freedom Fighters Association paid rich tributes to the former Prime Minister of India, late Lal Bahadur Shastri and father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on their birth anniversary here today. A function in this connection was organized by the Association members at in its office. The function was organized under the leadership of Ved Gandotra President of the association.
