How to issue health advisories? | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 2: An advisory issued by the health Department urges the people of Jammu to get their blood tested in case they experience headaches and chills. The advisory has been issued to fight dengue and malaria. The advisory has other do’s and don'ts but the advisory as usual is in English and that is where the problem lies. For majority of the state's population English is an alien language and should not, therefore, be preferred for issuing health advisories. Early Time has time and again urged the authorities to issue important advisories in a language that most of the people can read and understand. Saner elements have also urged the authorities to publish the advisories in newspapers with wider circulation. It should not be issued for the sake of it or for pleasing a disgruntled editor who roams in government offices to raise some revenue. In good old days, the authorities would launch a multi media campaign to educate people on such issues. Workers would go to far flung villages with pamphlets and even films to convey the message. There is no denying the fact that the world has been reduced to a global village but in this state, most of the villages still remain cut off from the urban centres and even from their district headquarters. In such a situation, the authorities have to reach the people in a proper way. |
