Lal Singh holds Police responsible for growing drug abuse | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 06: Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Choudhary Lal Singh Tuesday accused the Jammu and Kashmir Police for being responsible for growing drug abuse in the state. "Everyone appreciates the role of police, but nobody will talk how it (police) is actually responsible for drug menace. Police officers have fixed rates for ensuring drugs are supplied to its suppliers as a result youth are fast falling prey to the abuse," the minister said in reply to the calling attention notice moved by PDP legislator Javaid Hassan Baig in zero hour.. He further said: "I have seen how Class 9th, 10th students are increasingly becoming habitual of taking drugs. The government will open drug rehabilitation centers in every district, but that isn't going to solve the menace. We need to hit the source," he said. The resolution against drugs was passed in the house. He further said that unless the source is arrested, the menace won't stop. If police is serious to stop drug abuse in Kashmir, they should arrest the main source. Some Station House Officers (SHOs) have fixed rates for ensuring the drugs reach the suppliers who later distribute it to the youth. Those who supply have motor bikes and wear good dresses, but don't consume themselves," he claimed. He said that the state's condition is very bad in terms of drug abuse. "In every locality, at least 40 youth are addicts," the Minister revealed. He said the government is contemplating strict checking at the Lakhanpur to ensure drugs reach to the genuine suppliers. |
