10/6/2015 11:55:44 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 6: The economy of Jammu is likely to get a set-back with Government deciding to run almost all trains up to holy township of Katra with some even not having the haltage Station at Jammu. The decision has come as a rude shock to Jammu traders, hoteliers and members of Chamber of Commerce and Industry and who have appealed the Union Governmentnot to go ahead with the decision as it will hit the economy of Jammu badly. The traders and CCI members of Jammu apprehend that with the decision Jammu will turn into another Pathankot of Punjab whose economy was worst affected after the extension of train service to Jammu over four decades back.
The Jammu tourist traders, hoteliers as well as members of CCI are perturbed over the decision and they have taken up the issue with State and Union government. These organizations in their separate memorandums to the representatives of both the governments have urged them to look into the matter so that the economy of Jammu which remained trade hub of the State for decades together is not hit.
The traders have urged the Government that all the trains terminal should be at Jammu where from DMUs be run to Katra and Udhampur so that the Jammu economy does not suffer.
The trade bodies also demanded that due attention be paid to the promotion of tourism and pilgrimage tourism in Jammu and till that time all trains be terminated from here. They stressed the speedy completion of tourism related projects like Tawi lake, Mubarak Mandi heritage project, Cable Car Project, beautification and development of Bagh-e-Bahu and Bahu Fort, Cable Car project at Patni Top, development of mansar and Surinsar lakes, Ambaran caves at Akhnoor, Krimchi temples as well as promotion of pilgrimage Tourism to Sukhrala Mata, Cheechi Mata, Mantalai, Buda Amarnath, Shiv Khori, Sahadra Sharief as well as other religious shrines besides Hira Ranja project and promotion of border tourism at Suchetgarh on the pattern of Wagah.
The CCI as well as tourism traders who already had taken up this issue with the State government by submitting a detailed memoranda to them also discussed the issue with Union MOS in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh and sought his immediate intervention in the matter.
Showing his concern Dr Singh assured the delegation that he will take up the issue with concerned Ministry in Union Government as well as take up the issue with State Government.
