LC chooses 'no reply' on question under CM's Home Deptt tabled on Oct 5 | Covert bid to please VVIPs including politicians, babus....? | | Early Times Report srinagar, Oct 6: As political heat continues in both the Houses of Legislature over a host of issues, the Upper House chose not to append a written reply on one of the questions which is crucial in terms of easing traffic on roads in twin capital cities of the State. The answer file given to media had all but answer to this question U/S(C Q No. 217 put by PDP MLC Firdous Tak, this despite being the department under Chief Minister. The question included in the list tabled on Monday, October 5 was regarding private cranes hired by the Traffic Police Department for lifting of vehicles in Jammu and Srinagar cities. The PDP legislator had asked if it was a fact that cranes owned by private people were hired and engaged in towing the vehicles for various road offences. As a link to the query the MLC had also sought to know the details of revenue generated from compounding of challans for wrong parking during the last five years. More importantly, he had sought to know details of ownership of each vehicle (cranes), probably a factor for choosing to ignore written reply to the question. It was rightly so asked in the question as to what are the terms and conditions on which the vehicles have been hired by the Traffic Department and above all the yearly details of amount paid to the owners of vehicles since it has been hired. The question also sought details on mode adopted to hire such vehicles and is the kind of vehicles hired by the department allowed to be modified and used as cranes under the relevant laws…? The question at the end was marked as under Home Department implying that it is under Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and there assumed all the more significance. Yet a detailed reply was evaded or deliberately not issued to media for reasons better known to authorities at the helm in the Legislative Council. It is just possible that the reply might have been provided to the concerned MLC separately but the crucial question could not be used as a news item as there was no answer to it that should have come from the Council. On the other hand, as it is widely known that these vehicles or cranes used for lifting vehicles are mostly used by the influential people including politicians and bureaucrats, the irregularities by the concerned department as well, was a detailed reply purportedly evaded in order to avoid deeper details to come to fore….? It is for the Secretary Legislative Council to look into the matter so that media is not deprived of vital details of answers from the Government on public oriented issues. |
