Srinagar, Oct 6: The J&K government on Tuesday reiterated its plan to settle migrant Kashmiri Pandits in separate clusters near district headquarters, saying allocation of land in this regard is under its active consideration. In order to facilitate return and rehabilitation of migrant families in the Valley, the state and the central government sanctioned Rs 1618.40 crore package in 2008-09. "The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has conveyed principal approval to provide additional 3000 government jobs with financial assistance from the centre and construction of 6000 transit accommodations in Kashmir to Kashmiri migrants. However, the formal approval from the centre is awaited," said Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation in a written response to query by MLC Surinder Mohan Ambardar. Notably, the issue of rehabilitation of migrant Kashmiri Pandits is separate clusters in the Valley had created political storm in the Valley, forcing Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to deny that his government had any such plans. Separatists had threatened 2008 and 2010-like agitations if the government settled the migrants in the cluster townships. "After detailed interaction with various organizations and deliberations in Apex level Advisory Committee meetings chaired by Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed, a revised proposal for return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants after seeking approval from state Cabinet has been submitted to the central government," the Relief Minister informed the Assembly. According to the cabinet decision there would creation of additional 3000 supernumerary posts, construction of additional transit accommodations at different locations in Kashmir and providing funds for acquisition of land for providing plots in clusters near district headquarters Approval for revision in the cost for construction of houses from the earlier rupees 7.50 to rupees 20.00 lakhs has also been included. "Agriculturists and horticulturists would be assisted financially while self employment @ rupees 10.00 lakh per youth will be provided under this plan," he said. |
