PCC demands release of compensation for farmers | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Oct 13: Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, State General Secretary Pradesh Congress Committee, has expressed his anguish and highlighted several problems being faced by farmers due to damage caused to the crops during previous rainy season/ hailstorms. He alleged that the PDP-BJP Govt is creating a situation in which the farmers can take some avoidable extreme steps to endanger their life as no compensation has been released for their damaged crop Dr Sharma said Prime Minister Narendra Modi made number of promises during election campaigns in J&K but farmers have been pushed down after victory. He said despite having knowledge about painful plight of the farmers, the Govt. is still not taking any favorable step to uplift the agriculture sector leaving the farmers in a state of quandry Dr Manohar said JK Government prepared anti-farmer, anti-laborer and anti- people policies and added that rate of Basmati paddy has been reduced down to Rs 1300 per quintal and Rs 800 of other varieties which is insufficient. He demanded revival and strengthening of Co-operative societies and immediate establishment of procurement centres in district to procure paddy from the farmers to save them from private exploitation. |
