SVO asked to go whole hog against ex-Ministers, MLAs | | | ET Report Jammu, Oct 13: The PDP-BJP coalition Government has directed the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) to vigorously pursue the cases of corruption against some former Ministers and MLAs. According to sources, the Government till now was not sure of pursuing these cases as it would have sent a message that the regime believes in political vendetta. But after a series of incidents allegedly involving some mainstream politicians, which had the potential to affect law and order in the State, the Government has now decided to go whole hog after the cases. "Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had a detailed discussion with the senior leadership of the BJP. The police briefed them about the role of some of the Ministers and even MLAs with shady past clearly having some role in the recent disturbances in Jammu region. It was then the CM directed the Vigilance Organization to go all out against them and make their case watertight," said sources. Interestingly, Mufti was initially reluctant to touch even the aides of the former Ministers who are deeply involved in corruption. Mufti did not want to be seen as vindictive, "but when he was told that if they are left unchecked the situation could become more problematic, he changed his stand about them," said sources. They said some of the top Ministers in the previous Omar Abdullah led Government had made fortunes at the expense of the State exchequer The top officials, privy to the development, said Mufti has also changed his views about the Government. Earlier he was only interested in giving clean and effective governance, in which he is succeeding. "But now he has also decided that a tough message will be given further if Government catches big fish even if they are not in power," said sources. |
