| High-tech CCTV cameras being installed at key places, padestrian crossings in J&K | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 13: To keep a close eye on traffic rule violators, criminals and suspects, high-tech CCTV cameras are being installed at key locations and pedestrian crossings in the twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar and majors towns across the state.
In a traffic review meeting held on December 17, 2010 under the chairmanship of then DGP Kuldeep Khoda, it was decided to install 33 CCTV cameras at important places in Jammu and 13 in Srinagar.
Police sources said some of these cameras had developed faults and were not working properly. These would be replaced with high-tech cameras, the sources added, saying more such cameras would be installed at other important places and pedestrian crossings in Jammu and Srinagar.
Sources said the high-quality cameras would also be installed in other cities and towns of the state to keep an eye on traffic rule violators and bad elements.
While in Jammu, CCTV cameras are already installed at Satwari Chowk, Green Belt, Gandhi Nagar, Hotel Asia Crossing, Bikram Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Jewal Chowk, K C Chowk, Amphalla Chowk, Parade Chowk and High Court Crossing, Janipur, these were installed at intersections at Ram Munshi Bagh, TRC, Dalgate, M A Bridge Chowk, Golf, Jehangir Chowk, Hyderpora and at some other places in Srinagar.
Monitoring of these CCTVs would be done by the district police control rooms in their respective areas.
Sources said consultation with different firms to acquire the state-of-the-art cameras had already been initiated by the police headquarters.
There was also a proposal a install CCTV cameras at some key places on the Jammu-Kathua-Srinagar stretch of the highway, sources informed. |
