LMD books M/s D Mart for vercharging, seizes deceptive items 11/18/2015 11:39:35 PM Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 18: Continuing its campaign to safeguard the gullible consumers and following complaints about over charging, the sleuths of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today conducted extensive inspection of retail showroom under the name & style of M/s D-Mart at Kunjwani and booked the management under the relevant provisions of Law enforced for the purpose. Quoting complainant, the official said, "the complainant in his complaint stated that he had purchased footware (belly) for his daughter costing Rs 314 from the said outlet i.e. D-Mart and made payment as per the bill." "Later on opening the package, to his surprise he noticed the MRP printed on the product only Rs 50 by the manufacturer that too Inside the shoe," official said. "The matter of fleecing/overcharging by Rs 264, therefore was brought to the notice of the department today and the team acting accordingly went to M/s D-Mart and seized all such articles from the said outlet,' he added The official added that a notice was also issued to the management to produce bills as primafacia as it appeared to be the case of misappropriating central excise duty as the same is levied on MRP and manufacturer outside the country fix lower MRP to evade taxes."
