'Black Sheep' sabotage Mehbooba's journey to CM chair | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 18: With senior BJP leader and member of Rajya Sabha, Avinash Rai Khanna having said that there's no truth in "rumors" that Mehbooba Mufti would replace her father Mufti Mohammed Sayeed as the Chief Minister, the PDP leaders have taken it as an attempt of sabotage initiated by no outsider but some "black-sheep" within her party. It is believed that the BJP leader did not make the statement on his own but was asked to do so by some PDP Ministers enjoying good relations in the corridors of power in New Delhi. Khanna, it has come to fore enjoys personal relations with some of PDP leaders who hold Cabinet portfolios and were instrumental in the alliance with the BJP. "It seems to be the handiwork of such people who also eye the Chief Ministerial chair but their nefarious designs will never be fulfilled ," said a PDP loyalist pleading anonymity. The PDP leaders opine that a group of "black-sheep " within the party including some officials, who claim to be party loyalists, were trying to sabotage Mehbooba's taking over as CM for personal gains. "The PDP Ministers, their loyalist Government officials, and some influential people in Kashmir have unanimously conspired to sabotage this all only because if Mehbooba takes over as CM their personal interests will be crushed," the party insiders said. They said Mehbooba already smells a rat in the conduct of these suspect officials. "One of them wanted to be close to Chief Minister so that he could share information with the black-sheep lobby. But even though he was given promotion, he was tactfully kept away from Mufti Sahib," the insiders said adding role of such people has always been under scanner. The party loyalists said unlike most other politicians, Mehbooba is a courageous woman who "calls a spade a spade" and doesn't mind to criticize anyone no matter how powerful he or she could be in the State. "Given her clear-cut attitude there is a coterie in the party which is trying to create hurdles," the insiders said. A group of PDP leaders from Kashmir is understood to have decided to pick up the matter with the party President Mehbooba Mufti so that the "black-sheep are identified and taught a lesson of life." "Such people need to be exposed and given exemplary punishment," party loyalists said. On November 14 Avinash Rai Khanna, ruled out the change of guard in the coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir. Khanna, who is the BJP's chief whip in Rajya Sabha, said there is no truth in "rumours" on the transition of power in the Peoples Democratic Party from father and J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, to his daughter Mehbooba Mufti. "There is no truth in the rumours that change of guard is on cards in Jammu and Kashmir. The coalition Government is running smoothly. No such meeting or communication has taken place between Mufti and the BJP high command," Khanna said. The remarks came a day after Mufti Mohammad Sayeed hinted at handing over power to Mehbooba Mufti amid rumours over his ailing health. Talking to reporters in Jammu on November 13, Mufti said Mehbooba is "mature" enough to take over the reins of the State. "She is president of PDP, works hard in the field, represents a constituency in Lok Sabha, became Member of State Assembly first time in 1996, so she deserves all this," he said. The Chief Minister, who has not been keeping well for some time now, was talking to reporters after the Darbar Move offices re-opened in the winter capital Jammu. |
