How KEA provokes people of Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 18: The other day, Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), a conglomerate of pro-separatist organizations, came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described his Rs 80,000 crore financial package as "a ploy to trifurcate Jammu and Kashmir". It also accused the PDP-BJP coalition Government of hatching a conspiracy to "dilute the Muslim majority character of J&K by way of planning its trifurcation on religious lines". It held out a threat that it will launch a "mass movement" in Kashmir against the coalition Government to preserve the Muslim-majority character of the State and fight for justice for the ill-treated Kashmir. What made the KEA leadership to launch a tirade against the Prime Minister and the PDP-BJP coalition Government was unfair allocation of funds between the State's three regions. "In the name of development, mere Rs 6,500 crore will be given to Kashmir province whereas Rs 13,000 crore have been announced for Ladakh and Rs 11,000 crore for Jammu province. Kashmir is being given peanuts whereas there's no mention of package for the other Muslim dominated regions of the State including Chenab Valley and Poonch and Rajouri areas," chairman, KEA, Muhammad Yaseen Khan, said. Khan made a fool of himself by saying what he said. He should have praised the Prime Minister for the simple reason that his package earmarked for Kashmir province Rs 17,500 crore, and not Rs 6,500 crore, as he claimed. Remember, Ladakh region and Kashmir Valley constitute what the State Constitution says "Kashmir Province". The State consists of two provinces, which have three distinct regions - Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. It was Jammu which got a lesser share. It got only Rs 11,000 crore, as against Rs 17,650 crore Kashmir got under the Prime Minister's financial package. It is not for nothing that the PDP leaders, including Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, his daughter and party president Mehbooba Mufti, Finance Minister and PDP leader Haseeb Drabu and almost all the PDP leaders and Ministers have been praising Prime Minister Modi for liberal funding. Khan - apart from asking the State Government and New Delhi to "reshape the package in accordance with the needs of the people" - opposed the package on several other counts. He opposed the package, saying the "package clearly shows that the lion's share in development has been given to regions of Jammu and Ladakh, which have less domination of Muslims"; that the "PM's package is more focused on 'developing the State to serve the defence purpose of India' rather than helping State"; that the "focus of New Delhi is not the interest of people of Kashmir region, but they are focused to strengthen the Army and increase influx of Yatris"; that "instead of any effort for revival of trade with Muzaffarbad and the central Asia via traditional silk route, the road network between Ladakh and Himachal is being strengthened through tunnels and highways'; and that, "as per the package, instead of allocating funds for the construction of much-needed Doda-Kapran road and Vailoo tunnel which would connect us to Chenab Valley, road networks of strategic and communal importance are being developed". Each and every word that Khan spoke was self-explanatory. What he said only exposed the KEA and its thinking, its anti-India bias, its anti-Jammu bias, its anti-Ladakh bias and its pro-Kashmir bias. But what he said was on expected lines. After all, all Kashmiri leaders speak the same language when it comes to India, the Indian rupees, Jammu, Ladakh, Pakistan, separatists, Indian laws, Indian Army, India paramilitary forces and so on. |
