MMPHW degree holders cry discrimination | | | Javaid Naikoo
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 28: Hundreds of youth holding Male Multipurpose Health Worker (MMPHW) degrees allege gender discrimination during recruitment in service. The MMPHWs said no posts were created for them since 2009 while Female Multipurpose Health Workers (FMPHWs) are recruited regularly. Around 3000 youth of Kashmir till date have got MMPHW degrees from different colleges in past seven years and more that 4000 youth are at the moment studying the course in different colleges within and outside the state. However, even after working voluntarily in district and sub-district Health institutions on a remuneration of Rs 1500 per month for years, the MMPHWs have been ignored. A group of MMPHWs said the department concerned has not advertised a single post for them either under state quota or under different centrally sponsored schemes like NRHM. "We are not against recruitment of FMPHWs in health institutions but we don't understand on which grounds Health department only advertise posts for them and ignores us always. Compared to females we have worked voluntarily for just Rs 1200 to 1500 per month and still then government ignores us," Sajad Ahmad, president MMPHW's Association told Early Times. He said that since 2009, the Health department advertised posts of Health workers in city, district and sub-district hospitals and filled them through recruitment boards. But the advertisement notice reads 'only female candidates are eligible to apply.' Parvinder Singh, a MMPHW degree holder from north Kashmir, said that he has no option except to sit idle at home. |
