Probe ordered in alleged embezzlement in distribution of compensation to saffron growers | | | Early Times Report Kishtwar, Nov 28: Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Ghulam Nabi Balwan today ordered probe into the alleged embezzlement in distribution of compensation among saffron growers of ward No 2 of Panchayat Poochal A2 and asked the concerned officer to explain his position within two days. As per the details available with "Early Times", the DC vide letter No DCK/Adm/15/2487-88 addressed to Chief Agriculture Officer Kishtwar and Saffron Development Officer Kishtwar on the basis of the general complaint submitted by local inhabitant Firdous Giri wherein it was alleged that the payments of compensation for the year 2013 had not been sanctioned in favour of genuine persons of ward No 2 of Panchayat Poochal A2. As per a copy of the sanctioned order submitted by the complainant, the compensation was allegedly sanctioned in favour of the persons who were not the residents of the said Panchayat and did not even hail from the saffron growing area as was the case shown at Serial No 95 namely Faisal Kichloo son of Mushtaq Kichloo. It was alleged that most of the persons whose names figured in the beneficiary list were either outsiders or belonged to one family who are the close relatives of a panch of the said panchayat. "In view of the above facts, you will ensure to stop the payments of the compensation in respect of the said Panchayat immediately till an enquiry is conducted into the matter" read DC Kishtwar's order. It is pertinent to mention that Saffron growers of Kishtwar District since year 2013 are suffering badly due to climatic changes as well as due to supply of poor quality seeds and fertilizers by the department. The people from time to time alleged massive embezzlement in distribution of the compensation to the affected farmers which runs into several lakhs and people of the saffron growing areas demanded an independent probe against the officials at the helm of the affairs so that the justice could be done with the poor farmers who had already faced the brunt of more than 80 pc damaged crops. |
