Frustrated Geelani acknowledges rejection | Asks youth to take up arms to make separatists relevant | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 28: Frustrated over Kashmiris rejecting separatists and separatism, the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani has acknowledged that people have failed separatists as they don't pay any heed towards their calls and programmes. "If people do not pay heed to the leaders for boycotting polls, it is their weakness and this failure should not be attributed to the leadership. If people have lost confidence in their leaders, it also is the weakness of people," Geelani said recently. Geelani's statement comes a few days after Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated that hartal politics has failed and separatists should devise a new strategy to remain relevant. "The Hurriyat hawk after acknowledging his failure asked youth to take up arms and spread terror so that people fall in the line and they once again start following the diktats of the separatists," said an analyst. He said, "Kashmiris have realized the futility of strikes and violence. They (people of Kashmir) thronging polling booths and electing their representatives has served as a big blow to separatism and their propaganda about Kashmiris not being happy with India," he added. The analyst said, "Earlier there used to be whispers in Kashmir about separatists turning youth into canon-fodder. Now people have raised the banner of revolt against the people who preach secessionism and separation from India. People are asking questions and separatists have no answers whispers have become clear and loud that separatists have pushed Kashmir towards quagmire of uncertainty." Another Kashmir watcher said, "It seems separatists have read the writing on the wall and have come to know that their stunts are not going to work anymore. After instigating youth to hit the streets and resort to stone pelting now Hurriyat hawk is provoking the youth to take up the arms and go on a killing spree to establish the writ of separatists, who can go to any extent to appease their bosses sitting across the Line of Control." "The proxy war which Pakistan has been fighting in Kashmir for the past 25-years is coming to an end as the security forces have successfully neutralized the Pak sponsored insurgency. Kashmir turning into battle ground has devastated Kashmir and its people. The senseless violence has benefitted people like Geelani who during all these years received huge amounts from other side to keep the pot boiling," the Kashmir watcher added. A leader of the mainstream political party while talking to Early Times said, "People of Kashmir have rejected separatism and high polling percentage is an ample proof of it. Separatists know it very well that if they contest the elections they would be rejected out rightly." The politician said that people of Kashmir want to prosper and want to live peacefully. "They (Kashmiris) want to be a part of developed and prosperous India. A handful of people with vested interests have misled Kashmiris for a long. Now times have changed and separatists are at crossroads," he said, adding, "Geelani's assertion that people have rejected them should serve as an eye opener for all the dream merchants who have been hoodwinking people since 1990s." |
