Anantnag, November 29: In a shocking incident, 24 years old lady after delivering dead female baby at Sub-district hospital Bijbehara died allegedly due to medical negligence as a Dermatologist attended on her in the absence of a Gynaecologist.
Family of the deceased lady accused doctors posted at Bijbehara hospital of medical negligence and demanded stern action against the doctor who attended on the patient.
Deceased, identified as Suraya w/o Mehraj-u-din resident of new colony Bijbehara, according to family was admitted in sub-district hospital Bijbehara after she (deceased) complained of labor pain.
Official sources told Early Times that gynaecologist Dr Aaliya vaid admitted the patient around 4:00pm on Friday and left the hospital according to duty roaster.
According to hospital roster after 4:00 pm on Friday Dr Nuzhat (dermatologist) came to attended night duties totally in violations of norms as dermatologist can't administer gynaecology patients. They said that Dr Aliya Viad and Medical superintend allegedly forced the lady doctor (Dr Nuzhat) to attend night duties.
"You don't have to attend night duties as Dermatologist but as Medical officer," MS Gorwinder Singh is said to have told the lady doctor in his office at the time of making roaster.
Official sources said that at around 4: 00 am in the morning, patient delivered a dead baby but the dermatologist Dr Nuzhat didn't bother to see the patient while as the nurses on duty attended the patient.
"After delivery Patient suffered from PPH and due to blood loss the patient's condition deteriorated following which she was referred to LD," an officer privy to incident told Early Times.
He said that on way to Srinagar, fearing trouble ambulance driver checked in to SDH Pampore for immediate treatment and where from she was again referred to LD hospital.
Official sources said that the patient died inside the operation theatre. Family of the deceased lady said that doctors at LD hospital told them that the uterus of the lady had got ruptured.
Dr Nuzhat on being contacted confirmed that she administered the patient. "Yes I am dermatologist and I administered the patient. I tried my best but without required facilities like 24*7 Operation Theatre it was difficult to handle the patient," she said.
She said that she has several times refused to attend night duties but Medical superintend forced her to do so. "Many times I refused to attend night duties as I am not a gynaecologist but he (MS) forced me to attend duties despite knowing that I am dermatologist and don't have necessary training for administrating gynaecology patients but still I did what gynaecologist is supposed to do," she added.
Block Medical Officer Bijbehara, Dr Mohd Amin said that he wasn't aware of the incident. Chief Medical Officer Anantnag, Dr Fazil Kochak wasn't available for a comment as his phone was switched off.
Medical superintend SDH Bijbehara, Dr Gorwinder Singh's cell was also switched off.
Meanwhile, Bijbehara residents are up in arms against the Health Minister Choudary Lal Singh and state government for injuring there repeated pleas.
"We have made hundreds of representations before the health minister. He (Lal Singh) himself visited the hospital many a times but so far has not done anything concrete," residents demanding action against the erring doctors told Early Times. |
